Ho’okupu‘Āhinahina

A birth blanket offered to families welcoming new life in Hilo.

Not sold.
Not reproduced.

Given freely in gratitude for the hands that hold mothers steady in their most sacred hour.

The ‘Āhinahina Blanket

Inspired by the silversword of Mauna Kea —
a plant that blooms once in its lifetime.

A reminder that some moments arrive only once.

And change everything that follows.

Ho’okupu -The Offering

In Hawaiian tradition, a hoʻokupu is an offering given in respect and gratitude.

The ʻĀhinahina blanket carries this spirit forward.

Each piece is placed into the hands of families welcoming a child at Hilo.

A quiet gesture of thanks to the nurses, physicians, and caregivers who stand beside mothers in their most vulnerable hour.

The Origin Story

In the month my daughter was born, the silversword bloomed on Mauna Kea.

A bloom that appears once in a lifetime.

Motherhood felt the same.

The first ʻĀhinahina blanket was created for her.

From that moment forward, the blanket became an offering — shared with other families welcoming new life.

The commitment

Beginning in 2026, Haukea & Co. will gift ʻĀhinahina blankets annually to families welcoming children in Hilo.

Each blanket is given freely.

Quietly.

Without commerce.
